The small town of Talkeetna, Alaska elected a Cat for Mayor and the cat has served the town well for about 15 years. The cat’s name is Stubbs and the voters elected him in a write in campaign after rejecting the other human candidates. It seems the people of Talkeetna were tired of their government raising taxes and interfering with small business. Stubbs has done none of this. He has served the voters well by staying out of their affairs.
I regard the previously mentioned election of a non human mammal to office as not that those voters greatly desired their candidate but that they were greatly opposed to the former establishment. In that sense I understand how the current President of The United States was elected. We have all heard and read much about liberal voters who cannot comprehend such a man attaining office. This has led to a great wailing and gnashing of teeth taking place across the political and societal American landscape. I understand the angst from liberal voters whose candidate did not win but they are missing the point. The point is that ‘We the people’ voted against the establishment in Washington and on Wall Street. The ‘People’ had enough with policies that have decimated the middle class. The ‘People’ were tired of standard politicians talking out of the sides of their mouths with no intent of righting the ship. The ‘People’ elected a person who did not look like, sound like, or act like a standard politician. My opinion is that the voters elected someone who would not be tainted by undue influence or have his mind set on the large honoraria that he could receive for speaking engagements after leaving office. This was the point. In a sense the voters elected a political mammal unlike any previous humans. I believe that the hope is that this President will hiss when approached by establishment politicians and their tragic nonsene. The hope may be that when poked by those desiring the status quo, he will bite.
